Ghana head coach Otto Addo has issued a stern warning to his team, reminding them that their lead in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers does not guarantee qualification.
Following their dominant 3-0 victory over Madagascar, the Black Stars now hold a five-point cushion at the top of the standings. However, Addo insists that the race is far from over and that complacency must be avoided.
After the match, the Ghanaian tactician stressed the importance of staying focused, acknowledging that their qualification hopes could still face challenges.
“We are in a good position, but this is also a danger, and I’m already thinking about keeping our heads focused. The job is really not done. Maybe if Comoros win, we will just be three points ahead of them, and it is still a long way to go. We have to focus,” Addo stated in his post-match interview.
Ghana’s impressive run in the March international break—which included a 5-0 demolition of Chad before their win over Madagascar—has significantly strengthened their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Addo remains cautious, urging his players to keep their momentum and secure maximum points in the upcoming fixtures.
With the next round of qualifiers approaching, the Black Stars must remain relentless to ensure their ticket to the World Cup.
