The Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that during the peak of Ghana’s economic challenges in 2022, 60 tonnes of gold worth an estimated $1.2 billion at the time left Ghanathrough illegal channels.
He made this revelation during the
inauguration of the new task force to fight against illicit gold smuggling.
According to him, in the last ten years, over 600 tonnes of gold, valued at more than $12 billion, have been illegally exported.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson urged the taskforce to defeat gold smuggling and restore national control over our resources and ensure that Ghana truly benefits from its gold wealth.
