Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of selectively allocating development resources based on electoral support.
Speaking in the Oti Region on Monday, November 4, as part of his two-day tour, Mahama claimed that the NPP’s approach to development has neglected areas that did not support them politically, thus failing to promote equitable growth across Ghana.
He argued that this alleged bias has left some communities without critical infrastructure, pledging that he would address these disparities if elected in the upcoming December election.
During his tour stop in Biakoye, Mahama asserted that President Akufo-Addo may be acknowledging an impending loss, as he believes the NPP’s development strategy has alienated key regions.
“The NPP failed to build regional hospitals because Krachi East indigenes didn’t vote for them,” Mahama said, adding that an NDC government would uphold its promise to develop infrastructure in Krachi East and other overlooked areas.
He reiterated his commitment to bring balanced development to all regions, regardless of their electoral support for the NDC, and assured residents in the Oti Region that they would see tangible benefits under his leadership.
Mahama’s remarks were met with support from local leaders, including the Chief of Dambai, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, who underscored the region’s pressing need for infrastructure.
At a community gathering, the chief expressed gratitude for the educational and smaller hospital projects Mahama initiated in the past, but stressed the need for a regional hospital in Krachi East.
“We are very grateful for the educational infrastructure you developed, which has helped us all these years. We also know you built smaller hospitals in Krachi, but the people are asking for a regional hospital,” the chief said, appealing to Mahama to prioritize this project if he wins.
