A joint press release from WANEP, CDD-Ghana, CODEO and NERG has revealed that a total of 76 incidents of violence have been recorded in the 2024 elections.
These incidents include the destruction and vandalism of public facilities, deaths, and injuries.
The release highlights a chilling breakdown of the violence, with 24 cases involving the destruction of public property, six deaths, and 46 people injured.
Incidents like the shooting death of Haruna Shaibu in the Tolon Constituency and the wounding of several individuals during the collation process have raised alarm.
Moving forward, the partners plan to follow up on these cases with a detailed validation process in the affected regions.
The CDD-Ghana Security Sector Governance team will work to gather more information on the cases, including the identities of victims and the background of the incidents.
This will involve engaging with security officers, victims, and their families to confirm the details and further ensure that justice is served.
The partners will establish a robust tracking system to monitor the cases as they progress through the justice delivery chain.
CODEO volunteers will be trained to track the cases and file monthly reports, visiting police stations and court proceedings to ensure updates are shared with the public.
A dedicated platform for victims and their families will also be created to keep them informed on legal processes and gather public support for investigations.
