Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency of the Central region have apologised for the protest they staged last week.

The aggrieved supporters went on a rampage damaging some party assets to protest the perceived exclusion of their 2020 and 2024 parliamentary candidate, James Kofi Annan, from government appointments.

At a press conference held on Monday, 27 January, to apologise to President John Mahama, the NDC party, and their parliamentary candidate, the group’s spokesperson, Musa Moro, explained that their actions were driven by frustration, particularly after the news of the appointment of the CEO of the Gaming Commission, whom they believe had ties to the NPP.

They did not hold back their displeasure after the President snubbed the Effutu Parliamentary Candidate, Dr James Kofi Annan in the ongoing appointment into his government.

They vented their spleen on the party office. Properties belonging to the party were wrecked and set ablaze to drum home their displeasure.

Appalled by the actions of his supporters, the Parliamentary Candidate in the 2024 general elections, Dr James Kofi Annan sent a heartfelt message of apology to President Mahama begging for his forgiveness and pardon for the conduct of the NDC supporters.

However, in a spirit of remorse, the NDC executive members in the Effutu constituency have rendered an unqualified apology to the President to forgive their misconduct.

Spokesperson of the group, Angela Mensah addressed the press to put matters into perspective.

Morro Musah a Branch Executive in the Effutu Constituency also stressed the motive behind their actions. Adding that, it was inspired by the resilient nature of Dr James Kofi Annan.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the Effutu Constituency, Dr James Kofi Annan has cautioned the youth to remain calm and avoid any act of hooliganism.

He has urged the youth to focus on the plan to annex the seat from the incumbent and minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
