The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has invited candidates whose results were withheld over alleged examination malpractices to the final stage of investigations, paving the way for a decisive ruling on their academic fate.
In a statement dated January 30, 2025, WAEC confirmed that scrutiny of the affected scripts has been concluded, and candidates have been called to appear before selected officials. These crucial meetings will determine whether the withheld results will be released or permanently canceled.
“The concerned candidates have been invited to engage with WAEC officials in the presence of their parents or guardians. This process is aimed at ensuring fairness before a final decision is made,” said John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.
This latest development follows an earlier announcement on December 30, 2024, when WAEC released provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), withholding some subject results due to suspected irregularities.
WAEC has assured the public of a transparent process, dismissing allegations by some parents that students are being coerced into admitting wrongdoing. “Candidates will be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations and submit written statements freely,” Kapi reiterated.
The examination body has urged all affected students and their guardians to cooperate fully with the ongoing probe, as their input will play a key role in the final decision. The outcome of these meetings could have lasting implications on the academic and professional futures of the candidates involved.
