The Tamale Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the immediate arrest of four individuals linked to the violent gun battle at the Tamale Central Market on January 28, 2025.
The suspects, who are currently on the run, are accused of launching an armed assault over a land dispute, leaving multiple people injured.
WANTED: The Four Armed Suspects on the Run
The court has declared the following suspects wanted:
- Faisal Alhassan (Warrant No. 01/2025), son of Gulkpenaa from Tamale
- Osman Mohammed Nyohini Zaachi (Warrant No. 02/2025)
- Yakubu Mohammed, alias “Chairman” (Warrant No. 03/2025)
- Rashid Zakaria (Warrant No. 04/2025)
These suspects, along with Tahiru Sulemana—who was arrested after sustaining gunshot wounds—face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, causing harm, and the use of offensive weapons, all in violation of Ghana’s Criminal Offenses Act of 1960 (Act 29).

Daylight Gun Battle: How the Attack Unfolded
According to prosecutors, the five suspects, allegedly acting under the command of Faisal Alhassan, stormed the Tamale Central Market, firing indiscriminately at traders and bystanders. Their target was businessman Alhassan Fuseini, over a disputed piece of land near the market’s road overpass.
The attack left several people wounded, including:
- Alhassan Seidu, 33 (shot in the right leg)
- Eric Kofi Mensah, 30 (shot in the right knee)
- Shaibu Abdul Ganiu, 39 (injured while taking cover under a vehicle)
The gunmen, believed to be part of a vigilante group linked to the Gulkpegu Chief’s Palace, were armed with G3 and AK-47 rifles, as well as a 9mm firearm.
Security Tightened, Manhunt Launched
Following the attack, police and military personnel secured the market area, recovering spent shells and live rounds. However, the four fugitive suspects were not found at the crime scene.
Authorities have vowed to track them down, as investigations continue. Meanwhile, Tahiru Sulemana, the only suspect in custody, remains under arrest, assisting with police inquiries.
