The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike, effective Thursday, February 13, 2025, in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
The decision follows a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on February 11, 2025, where concerns were raised about politically exposed individuals being appointed into the Civil Service and local government structures.
NEC had earlier warned that if Mr. Botchway assumed office, the association would take industrial action.
Following his official assumption of duty on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, CLOGSAG announced that it had no choice but to proceed with the strike.
The association has directed all its members to stay at home until further notice.
