Parents Association of GSTS supports NUGS protest against WAEC

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) has lent its full support to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in their planned demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The protest is in response to the delay and cancellation of results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which has left many students in limbo regarding their future academic prospects.

Speaking on ABC Midday News on Thursday, February 20, Thomas Cudjoe, Chairman of the PTA, criticized WAEC for its handling of the results, describing the situation as a “failure of responsibility.”

Cudjoe emphasized the importance of students receiving their results promptly so they can proceed with their university admissions, warning that waiting until February 28 would be too late for many.

“We are talking about people’s lives with timelines, and if this issue isn’t resolved, students will lose their chance for the entire year,” he said.

Cudjoe also addressed WAEC’s claims of credibility issues surrounding the results, dismissing them as irrelevant.

“Whatever WAEC is saying is neither here nor there,” he stated. “This is about our children’s futures, and it’s about time the Ministry of Education takes action.” The PTA is fully behind the protest organized by NUGS, which will take place on February 25, 2025, in Accra.

NUGS, which has been vocal in condemning WAEC’s actions, has formally notified the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of their intent to demonstrate.

The protest will demand transparency and fairness in WAEC’s result management process and seek an immediate resolution to the issue. NUGS is calling on all affected students, parents, and concerned citizens to join in the demonstration to stand up for justice and accountability.
