Deputy Finance Minister nominee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, outlined plans to enhance security and support economic growth by prioritizing a 24-hour economy.
Speaking to the Appointments Committee of Parliament on February 24, 2025, Ampem highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that economic activities continue smoothly throughout the day and night, further boosting productivity and growth.
“We will ensure the 24-hour economy will be running from morning through till the next morning,” he affirmed, emphasizing the crucial role of this policy in fostering economic resilience and expanding job opportunities across the country.
In addition to this, Ampem discussed the need for stronger security measures to safeguard economic activities around the clock.
He acknowledged that in a thriving 24-hour economy, ensuring safety and stability would be crucial to maintaining investor confidence and enabling continuous economic operations.
He further stressed that the government would continue to focus on both security and infrastructure to support the ambitious economic reforms necessary to achieve long-term growth.
Ampem’s comments come as part of a broader effort by the Mahama administration to transform the economy by embracing modern technological solutions and enhancing sectoral collaborations.
“Security will be a top priority, as the 24-hour economy will require a stable environment to thrive,” Ampem concluded, highlighting the interconnected nature of security, economic growth, and technology in modernizing Ghana’s economic framework.
