Chairman of the Hajj Board, Collins Dauda has stated that amongst its neighbouring countries, Ghana is charging the cheapest fare for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Collins Dauda said the $4100 Hajj fare is significantly lower when compared to fares being charged by countries in the sub-region.
He noted that Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria are all charging over 5000 US dollars.
The Hajj fare for pilgrims in Ghana is $4100 which is equivalent to GHS62,000.
Speaking to the media at the commissioning of a passport office set up at the Hajj village to be used for premium service for pilgrims to acquire their passport, Alhaji Collins Dauda explained that government has no plans to further reduce the Hajj fare.
“All our neighboring countries charge over $5,000, but we are charging $4,000. We have no plans to further reduce it, but if circumstances require us to reconsider, we will.”
In other development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commissioned an office for the generation of passports for Muslim pilgrims to Mecca.
Speaking to the media at the commissioning of a passport office set up at the Hajj village to be used for premium service for pilgrims to acquire their passport, Alhaji Collins Dauda noted that the president wants to make the pilgrimage as smooth as possible for the pilgrims.
