The Ashanti Region is set to see improved street lighting as the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, has facilitated a two-year contract with Prefos Company Ltd. to maintain key sections of the street lighting network.

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene who lead a delegation to sign the contract wrote on X “I am pleased to announce that, with the intervention of the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, we have successfully engaged Prefos Company Ltd. on a two-year contract through the Highway Authority to maintain key sections of the street lighting network.”

The contract, awarded through the Highway Authority, will cover the Ejisu Abenase to Tech Police Station stretch and the Suame to Buoho road, ensuring enhanced safety and security for residents and commuters.

In addition to this initiative, all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been directed to take responsibility for maintaining street lights in their respective areas to prevent any community from being left in darkness.

The Roads Minister has also pledged to extend the maintenance project to other parts of the region. During a site handing-over ceremony, officials visited the Prefos Training Center and Factory, where local street lights are assembled, highlighting the government’s commitment to local manufacturing and job creation.

READ FULL STATEMENT BY THE REGIONAL MINISTER

As part of our ongoing efforts to restore and maintain street lights for improved safety and security across the Ashanti Region, I am pleased to announce that, with the intervention of the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, we have successfully engaged Prefos Company Ltd. on a two-year contract through the Highway Authority to maintain key sections of the street lighting network.

This contract covers:
✅ Ejisu Abenase to Tech Police Station
✅ Suame to Buoho

Additionally, I have instructed all MMDAs to take responsibility for street lighting in their respective areas, ensuring that no community is left in darkness. I have also secured the commitment of the Roads Minister to extend maintenance efforts to other areas within the region.

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to participate in the site handing-over ceremony and visit the Prefos Training Center and Factory, where street lights are assembled. It was inspiring to see the dedication to local manufacturing and skill development—key factors in boosting regional employment and self-reliance in infrastructure development.

We remain committed to making Ashanti safer, brighter, and more developed. Let’s continue working together to ensure a well-lit and secure environment for all.

END.
