The Minority in Parliament has called on Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to actively participate in the upcoming debate on the 2025 Budget.
The demand was made by Okaikwei Central MP, Patrick Boamah, during the presentation of the business statement for the coming week.
Boamah argued that the Vice President’s vast experience in education should be reflected in the government’s economic and financial policies, emphasizing that her insights would significantly influence policy direction.
Citing Article 111 of the Constitution, he stressed that the Vice President has the right to partake in parliamentary proceedings, except for holding an office in Parliament.
Boamah further urged the Business Committee to revise the schedule and allocate time for the Vice President’s participation, highlighting her role as the first female Vice President and a former Minister for Education.
“She swore an oath to engage in parliamentary affairs, and her presence will provide unique perspectives on the 2025 budget,” he stated.
He emphasized that her involvement would enhance discussions on government policies, especially in areas linked to her expertise.
The Minority insists that ensuring her participation would set a strong precedent for the Vice Presidency’s role in economic policy discourse.
