Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has stated that the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP) was inevitable.
Speaking on Prime News on ABC News GH, he questioned the backlash against President John Dramani Mahama’s decision, emphasizing that it was a standard administrative procedure.
“We knew Dampare was going to go anyway. If he has been sacked, then it’s just a simple administrative procedure,” he said. He also commended both Dampare and President Mahama, stating that each had acted in what they believed was best for the country.
Kumadoe dismissed protests against Dampare’s removal as unnecessary, labeling them as “pure hypocrisy and pure foolishness.”
He acknowledged concerns over Dampare’s promotional issues but noted that similar challenges exist within the security services.
“Dampare had promotional issues, as some argue, but he is not the only one. He raised it as a concern in the security services,” he explained.
Kumadoe urged Ghanaians to encourage and support the newly appointed IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in his new role. “He knows everything about the job. I think we need to encourage him,” he added.
His comments come amid divided reactions to Dampare’s removal.
While Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for greater recognition of Dampare’s service and contributions to national security, some police officers were seen jubilating over his exit on social media.
In contrast, the new IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, received a warm reception at the police headquarters, raising concerns about internal divisions within the service. The mixed reactions have sparked debates over leadership changes in Ghana’s security agencies.
