The family of the late Madam Gertrude Essie Quashigah, former National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), has strongly condemned allegations made by former Minister for Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo, accusing her of mismanaging the initiative. In a statement signed by Isaac Aidoo, Esq., the family described Safo’s claims as “unfounded and unfortunate,” stressing that Madam Quashigah served with integrity and dedication until her passing in 2023.
They emphasized that under Madam Quashigah’s leadership, the GSFP expanded significantly, improving nutrition and welfare for thousands of schoolchildren across the country. The family expressed deep distress over the accusations, stating that it was painful for such claims to be made when she is no longer alive to defend herself. “It is deeply painful that such unfounded and unfortunate accusations are being levelled against our mother at a time when she is no longer present to speak for herself,” the statement read.
The family has called on Adwoa Safo to immediately retract her comments and offer an unqualified apology. They also highlighted the historical ties between their late father, Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), and Adwoa Safo’s father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, expressing disappointment over the remarks. Urging Ghanaians to honour Madam Quashigah’s memory, they reiterated her lifelong commitment to national service and the well-being of Ghanaian children.
