The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has expressed concern that the ongoing rejection of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees could hinder development in the affected districts.
This comes after the Ada East District Chief Executive nominee failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority vote in the assembly. Speaking to journalists on May 8, 2025, Ocloo emphasized the detrimental impact of delayed confirmations on local progress.
“If you delay the confirmation, you delay development and progress,” she stated, highlighting that significant improvements have already been initiated in many areas.
The Minister stressed that without a confirmed DCE in position, efforts to secure jobs and implement projects would be slowed, as duties would be shifted to district coordinators or other entities, causing delays.
Ocloo also encouraged nominees to proactively engage with assembly members ahead of the confirmation process, urging them to ensure that their positions are confirmed swiftly for the benefit of their communities.
“They have started a lot of improvements. If the DCE is at the post, he can lobby for some of the assembly members to be employed,” she added, stressing the importance of leadership in driving development.
