President John Dramani Mahama has urged contractors working on the Ofankor-Nsawam Road project to stay on schedule and ensure completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
He made the call during a working visit to the construction site on Wednesday, September 3, where he was accompanied by the Minister of Roads.
Mr. Mahama expressed optimism about progress on the long-delayed project but emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum and minimising disruption to motorists.
“I can see that drivers are happy now, and I hope that from now till you finish the project, you will maintain a smooth flow of traffic even as you are working so that you don’t impede the flow of traffic,” he told the contractors.
He added, “So we will hold you to your work. You say by the end of the second quarter next year you should be finished.” His comments reflect concerns about the impact of roadworks on traffic and the urgency of timely delivery.
The Ofankor road project, which officially began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, was initially scheduled for completion by July 2024.
However, funding challenges caused repeated delays, prompting protests from drivers and residents over severe congestion and environmental pollution.
Mr. Mahama’s renewed directive comes amid rising public pressure for government to deliver on major highway projects critical to easing daily commuter struggles.
