President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed Ghana’s commitment to fostering a stronger partnership with Qatar, aiming for the mutual benefit of both nations.
During a recent meeting with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Qatar Investment Authority for Africa and Asia, Sheikh Faisal Al Thani, the President highlighted that this bilateral collaboration would primarily focus on economic and political spheres.
The relationship between Ghana and Qatar dates back to 1981, and in 2018, Ghana took a significant step by opening its embassy in Doha, Qatar’s capital, marking a milestone in their progressive relations. Over the years, the two nations have cemented their ties through various agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These include accords covering areas like the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of financial evasion in 2007, the establishment of a trade and investment committee in 2004, and a MoU between their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs in the same year.
Additionally, Qatar and Ghana’s chambers of commerce have collaborated to establish a joint business council, further solidifying their economic cooperation. Mutual visits between officials from both countries have been instrumental in enhancing their relations and signify their shared commitment to bolstering ties and advancing their interests and the well-being of their citizens.
President Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks affirm Ghana’s enthusiasm for deepening collaboration with Qatar, underscoring the importance of fostering strategic partnerships to achieve mutual growth and development.
