President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy is recovering strongly, citing encouraging performance indicators during high-level talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting at the Élysée Palace on Wednesday, April 8, President Mahama stated that “the economy has bounced back and is doing very well, with very positive indicators.”

The meeting formed part of an official visit to France following the successful conclusion of the One Health Summit held in Lyon, which both leaders co-chaired.

During the discussions, President Mahama expressed gratitude to France and China for their critical support in Ghana’s debt restructuring process, noting that their contributions had played a vital role in stabilising the country’s economy.

Beyond economic recovery, the talks covered a wide range of development cooperation areas. These included ongoing collaboration with the French Development Agency, progress on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project, strategies to strengthen food security through year-round farming, and efforts to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) development. The leaders also explored ways to boost maternal healthcare delivery.

President Mahama underscored the longstanding ties between Ghana and France, emphasising that the partnership is anchored in shared values. “Ghana and France stand together on key issues of peace and security”, he stated, as both leaders examined the effects of global conflicts and discussed measures to sustain stability in the West African sub-region.

President Macron, on his part, commended Mahama’s leadership, particularly his role in co-chairing the Lyon summit. He also announced that Ghana would be the first beneficiary of the newly introduced National Health Compact, highlighting the country’s growing influence in global health policy.

In addition, Macron praised the Accra Reset Initiative, describing it as “very important” and noting that its principles had been widely referenced as a model framework during the summit.

The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and France, as both nations deepen cooperation across key sectors.
