Two people are feared dead following the collapse of a building at Avenor in Accra’s North Industrial Area in the early hours of Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Emergency responders have so far rescued three individuals from the rubble. Two of the victims were confirmed dead, while one survivor was rushed to the Ridge Hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene identified one of the deceased as a male worker known within the community.

Rescue operations remain underway as personnel search for a fourth person believed to be trapped beneath the debris. The missing individual is reported to be a female sachet water vendor who often slept in front of the building after completing her daily business activities.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m., prompting a coordinated response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces.

Firefighters from the Circle Fire Station and the GNFS Headquarters have been leading the rescue mission, supported by heavy-duty equipment, including excavators, to clear concrete slabs and twisted metal obstructing access to the collapsed structure.

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the collapse. Officials say investigations will begin after search-and-rescue efforts are completed.

The tragedy has renewed concerns about building safety and regulatory enforcement in the country. In response, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, Ernest Adomako, has indicated that he will raise the issue of recurring building collapses in Parliament, calling attention to the need for stricter compliance with construction standards and regulations.

As rescue teams continue their search, residents and onlookers remain gathered at the scene, hoping for positive news regarding the missing person.
