A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested by police following an alleged assault on a female student, an incident that gained widespread attention after a video of the violent incident circulated on social media.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was apprehended on Sunday, June 8, 2026, by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District Police Command.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident involved an 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu. Police say the suspect, who also serves as a caretaker at the school’s hostel, confronted the student and a group of male students over allegations of misconduct within the hostel facility.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into a dispute, during which the teacher allegedly assaulted the female student. Footage of the incident later surfaced online, sparking public outrage and widespread discussion.

The situation on campus became tense after some students, angered by the incident, reportedly threw stones at the suspect. Police further indicated that some youth from the Nyinahin community were invited to the school hostel in an apparent attempt to attack him.
However, officers who responded swiftly to the scene managed to restore calm and prevent the situation from escalating further.
Police have since issued a medical report form to the victim to facilitate medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and has urged residents and students to resort to lawful and peaceful means when seeking redress for grievances.
