The Member of Parliament for the Salaga-South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, together with the East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, has officially handed over the site for the construction of a new three-unit classroom block for the Sakafatu Islamic Junior High School in Salaga.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, 20th August 2026, as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning in the East Gonja Municipality.
The project is expected to be completed within five months.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Hajia Zuwera thanked opinion leaders, Islamic clerics, teachers and students of the school for their patience and cooperation. She explained that she had received several reports about the deteriorating condition of the school and, together with the MCE, worked to secure funding for the construction of the new facility.
She expressed satisfaction that their efforts had yielded positive results and assured residents of her continued commitment to improving education across the Municipality.
According to the MP, the project forms part of the broader vision of government to accelerate development and expand opportunities for young people, particularly through investments in education.
She said more investments would be pursued to provide students across the Municipality with the necessary infrastructure and opportunities to excel academically.
Hon. Hajia Zuwera also urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the agreed project timeline and ensure that the facility is constructed to the required standards. She noted that the timely completion of the project would significantly improve teaching and learning at the school.
The East Gonja Municipal Director of Education, Madam Abiba Bakari-Soale, commended the MP and the MCE for their commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the Municipality.
She described Hon. Hajia Zuwera as a listening leader who is passionate about education and the welfare of her constituents. Madam Bakari-Soale recalled that the MP had earlier assured her that the school would be reconstructed.
“True to her word, the school has now been awarded to a contractor for construction to commence,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the opinion leaders, Islamic clerics, teachers and students, Alhaji Baba Mustapha Jarah said the Sakafatu Islamic School is one of the oldest schools in the Municipality.
He said the community was delighted when the MCE informed them that the MP would officially hand over the site for the construction of the new classroom block.
Alhaji Jarah expressed gratitude to the MP and the MCE for responding to the concerns of the school and the community.
Special prayers were offered for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah and Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, seeking Allah’s guidance, wisdom and protection for them as they continue to serve the people.
The ceremony was attended by Islamic clerics from Ngua Mallam, NDC constituency and branch executives, staff of the Municipal Education Directorate, and officials from the East Gonja Municipal Assembly.
