The Ghana Police Service says investigations into the activities of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account have uncovered alleged financial links involving senior nurse Salomey Awitti Baffoe, TikToker Barbara Asantewaa Kodua and other individuals described as high-profile persons in society.
According to the Police, forensic analysis of Baffoe’s mobile phone and related digital records revealed financial transactions which investigators believe are connected to the production, redistribution and circulation of videos associated with the account.
Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed this at a press briefing on Friday, September 18, 2026.
She said the Police had been monitoring the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account and had identified Kodua, who is believed to be based in the United Kingdom, as its operator.
COP Donkor said Kodua had allegedly used the platform to publish videos containing comments and information which investigators consider inciteful and capable of causing fear, alarm and violence.
One of the claims under investigation, she said, involved an alleged assertion that a near coup d’état had occurred at the Jubilee House.
The Police subsequently identified Baffoe as an alleged accomplice in the distribution of the content.
Investigators say Baffoe recruited other individuals to help redistribute Kodua’s videos across various social media platforms.
The Police further allege that Kodua transferred money to Baffoe in Ghana to support the activities, after which portions of the funds were allegedly passed on to others involved in circulating the videos.
“ We know all those, including high-profile persons within our society, who are funding them,” COP Donkor said.
She explained that the alleged financial links were uncovered through forensic examination of Baffoe’s mobile phone, including mobile money transaction records, audio recordings, video files and other digital material.
According to the CID Director-General, the examination revealed significant financial transfers to Baffoe, some of which allegedly originated from influential individuals.
She said some of the funds were subsequently shared with Kodua, while other individuals in Ghana were also identified as allegedly providing financial support to Kodua’s online activities.
The Police said audio and video calls, voice recordings and other information retrieved from the devices have also been analysed as part of the investigation.
COP Donkor said transcripts and other relevant materials obtained through the forensic examination would be presented in court as evidence.
Baffoe was arrested in a joint operation involving the National Signals Bureau and the Ghana Police Service and subsequently arraigned on a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news.
She was remanded into police custody and is expected to return to court on September 30, 2026.
The Police say investigations are continuing to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the production, financing and redistribution of the content.
COP Donkor added that persons identified through the ongoing investigations would be brought before the court.
With the investigation still ongoing, the Police say they are tracing the wider network allegedly involved in funding and distributing the videos.
COP Donkor said the individuals identified through the process would be brought before the court as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
