A fire outbreak occurred late on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, engulfing the staff common room of the Adenta Community Basic School in the Adentan Municipality, Accra.
Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, fire officers reported significant damage to furniture, books, and school records as a result of the inferno.
Ebenezer Doku, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adenta, disclosed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
According to Doku, he received a call around 7:50 pm alerting him to the fire at the Adenta Community Basic School. Upon arrival, he observed that the fire had been extinguished by the Fire Service. He noted signs of forced entry into the headteacher’s office, with the fridge moved from its original position. However, it remains uncertain whether the individual who moved the fridge was responsible for setting the fire.
“Somewhere around 7:50pm, I was still in the office when I had a call that the Adenta Community Basic School was on fire, so I rushed there, and when I got there, the Fire Service had already quenched the fire, and when I got close, I realised the headteacher’s office was broken into and the fridge moved and there was smoke, but when I asked the security man, he said he also came for night duties and saw the fridge downstairs, and so as of now, we don’t know whether it was the same person who moved the fridge that set the place ablaze.” He said
While speaking anonymously, school authorities expressed confidence that the incident would not disrupt academic activities. Despite the damage caused by the fire, efforts are underway to ensure minimal disruption to the school’s operations.
As investigations continue, the Adenta Community Basic School remains committed to maintaining its academic schedule and providing quality education to its students.
