President Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Fomena and Kumawu Hospital, both located in the Ashanti Region.
The events, which drew traditional leaders and the public, celebrated the completion of 120-bed state-of-the-art facilities constructed by NMS Infrastructure Limited.
Each hospital is equipped with modern medical equipment and specialized departments, including maternity and pediatric wards, consulting and treatment rooms, theaters and recovery rooms, and an accident and emergency department.
These hospitals aim to provide comprehensive primary healthcare and a wide range of services to the residents of Fomena and Kumawu and their surrounding districts.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure across Ghana, emphasizing that these projects are part of a broader agenda to complete numerous healthcare facilities.
“By the end of 2024, we will also complete several significant projects, including the urology and nephrology Centre of Excellence at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital,” the President stated.
He further mentioned the construction of 11 district hospitals and a polyclinic in various regions, aligning with the government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye acknowledged the challenges faced during the projects’ early years but praised the President’s resolve in ensuring their completion.
The Minister noted that under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, many healthcare projects are nearing completion, with the Ashanti Region alone set to gain approximately 2,000 additional hospital beds by January 2025.
