The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has leveled serious allegations against the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, accusing him of abusing the sole-sourcing process to benefit his family members.
According to the opposition party, the government has awarded substantial contracts to companies associated with Bawumia’s brother and wife. The NDC claims that RESOURCE ACCESS LIMITED, a company linked to Bawumia’s relatives, has received ¢218 million through sole-sourced contracts.
In a statement released and signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, the party detailed the extent of these alleged abuses.
“Friends from the media, the total contract value of just the five (5) sole-sourced contracts awarded to Bawumia’s brother’s company alone amount to a colossal GHS218 million (equivalent to 2.1 trillion old Ghana Cedis). Can you imagine the huge savings the State would have made, if these projects had at least been awarded through a competitive process?” Gyamfi questioned, highlighting the potential financial implications of such practices.
Gyamfi further criticized Bawumia, labeling him as dishonest and hypocritical.
“My brothers and sisters, the above-enumerated facts, badly expose the dishonesty of Alhaji Bawumia on the subject of corruption. Who would have thought, that the man who preached vociferously against sole sourcing in opposition, will today be the biggest enabler and promoter of stinky sole-sourced and overpriced contracts to his own family relatives and cronies?”
The NDC’s accusations, if substantiated, could significantly impact the Vice President’s credibility and raise broader concerns about corruption within the government.
