Workers at the Pambros Salt Factory near Weija Junction are protesting against an alleged plan by traditional authorities to allocate portions of the salt mining area to Chinese business interests.

Dressed in red and black, the workers chanted slogans and expressed strong opposition to the move, fearing that it would lead to significant job losses.

Reports suggest that over 1,000 workers could lose their jobs if the salt mining area is handed over. Aggrieved workers voiced deep concern about the potential impact on their livelihoods and called for immediate government intervention.

One worker stated, “We notice that the Chinese people started encroaching on our land. They are destroying our land. We won’t agree since we don’t have anywhere going.”

The protesters are urging President Akufo-Addo to intervene, highlighting the government’s significant expenditure on salt and questioning how local producers can support the country if their jobs are destroyed.

They also expressed fear over the employment of land guards by the alleged investors, describing the situation as “scary” and calling on the traditional authorities to ensure justice is served.
