The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Walewale, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has officially withdrawn from the race to represent her constituency in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary election.
This decision was conveyed in a letter dated September 10, 2024, where Hajia Abudu announced her exit from the contest following an inconclusive rerun of the NPP primaries.
The rerun, held on September 9, 2024, ended without a declared winner due to an “unfortunate incident” that disrupted the Electoral Commission’s ability to finalize the results.
Addressing the situation in her letter, Abudu stated, “In the interest of the greater good of the New Patriotic Party and peace and unity in the Walewale constituency, I will no longer be a candidate for MP in the 2024 elections.” She expressed her intention to promote party unity despite the unresolved outcome.
In her letter, Abudu extended gratitude to the NPP for the opportunity to serve Walewale for the past four years and pledged her ongoing support for the party’s campaign in the upcoming elections.
“I would like to thank the party for the honour done me… and can assure the party of my continued support in the 2024 election campaign,” she concluded.
