Dr. Samuel Sarpong Ankrah, leader of the Alternative Force for Action (AFA), has described his disqualification from the 2024 presidential election by the Electoral Commission (EC) as a temporary setback.
In a press statement released on Friday, he stated, “We believe that such setbacks are merely steppingstones on the path to success, so we will move forward with renewed determination.”
He reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to what he calls a “Second Independence,” aimed at achieving a truly affordable Ghana.
The EC’s official release, which listed 13 qualified presidential aspirants out of 24, came as a surprise to many, including Dr. Ankrah, who mentioned that the errors cited on his nomination forms had already been addressed.
Other notable disqualifications include Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP), Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and Paul Perkoh.
Several disqualified candidates, including Ms. Nabla, are considering legal action to contest the EC’s decision.
Despite the disqualifications, the EC has assured that the nomination fees of those affected will be refunded.
Dr. Ankrah, however, expressed disappointment and stated that his team is exploring options to engage with the EC to rectify the errors.
” The Electoral Commission refers to errors on my nomination forms, many of which have previously been addressed. As such, the decision to disqualify me is most unexpected and disappointing. My team and I are currently exploring options to engage with the Electoral Commission to rectify the errors and we will keep you updated on our progress. “
“Together, we will overcome this challenge and turn it into an opportunity for growth and renewal,” he said.
