The government has officially released the names of eight individuals confirmed dead in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident involved a Z-9 military helicopter that reportedly lost radar contact shortly after takeoff on August 6, 2025, en route to Obuasi.
The Chief of Staff confirmed the fatalities, which include high-profile government officials, senior party members, and military personnel.
Among the deceased are two sitting ministers—Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment and MP for Tamale Central.
Also confirmed dead are Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Dr. Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The victims reportedly perished on impact, with some bodies burned beyond recognition.

The Ghana Armed Forces have yet to release the full details surrounding the crash. In a statement, they confirmed that the Z-9 aircraft went off radar after taking off on Wednesday morning.
