President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the newly rehabilitated Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, a $52 million project set to transform healthcare delivery in the Upper East Region.
During the ceremony, he underscored the government’s commitment to accessible quality healthcare, stating, “Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen, and it is the responsibility of government to ensure that the exercise of this right is not just theoretical, but, more importantly, practical.”
The facility’s transformation was made possible through a $20 million concessional loan from the Saudi Fund for Development, complemented by $32 million for critical infrastructure and medical equipment installations.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the broader scope of his administration’s healthcare initiatives, including the ongoing Agenda 111, which seeks to build 111 district hospitals across the country.
He also addressed the pressing issue of healthcare worker distribution, particularly in rural areas, and urged the Ministry of Health to finalize an incentive package to attract and retain medical professionals.
The President lauded the contributions of all stakeholders and called on the people of Bolgatanga and the Upper East Region to support the hospital’s operations, emphasizing the need for community ownership of the facility.
