President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the second phase of the Tema Motorway Interchange.
The inauguration, which comes shortly after the openings of the Flowerpot and Obetsebi Lamptey Interchanges, aims to alleviate traffic congestion, boost trade, and enhance economic growth in the ECOWAS region.
Constructed by JFE Engineering Corporation and supervised by CTI Engineering International, the $57-million project introduces a third-tier flyover connecting Tema Harbour to the Ashaiman Timber Market.
Funded through a grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the interchange will ease traffic flow and facilitate the clearance of goods at Tema Harbour, streamlining transportation along the vital Tema-Akosombo corridor.
Roads and Highways Minister Francis Asenso Boakye lauded the project as transformative for Ghana’s transportation network, emphasizing plans to establish a maintenance system to preserve the infrastructure.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the successful partnership with Japan as a testament to international collaboration, noting the interchange’s role in driving economic growth and reinforcing Ghana’s position as a regional trade hub.
