President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reminded outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees that the ban on acquiring official government vehicles remains in effect as his second term nears its conclusion.
This directive, originally introduced in 2020, prohibits appointees under the Presidential Office Act from acquiring government vehicles once their term ends.
The President’s statement, issued on Wednesday, December 2024, highlighted that while past administrations had allowed appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle after a valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd., this practice will no longer apply under his leadership.
The statement further emphasized that the ban on the acquisition of government vehicles would remain in full force until the end of the President’s second and final term.
This directive is part of a broader effort by the Akufo-Addo administration to ensure accountability and curb the misuse of state assets as the country prepares for a new leadership transition.
