The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, prominently displayed at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalized.
This becomes the second attack on the monument, which was erected to honor the former president’s contributions during his administration.
The initial act of vandalism occurred on December 16, 2024, when unknown individuals damaged the statue’s leg. Despite swift repairs, the perpetrators remained unidentified, leaving lingering questions about their motives.
The recent attack, resulting in the statue’s total destruction, has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for better security around public monuments.
Authorities have yet to make any arrests, intensifying concerns over the protection of national symbols and their significance in Ghana’s political history.
