The Ghana Police Service has planned to deploy 10 officers to every polling station in the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election as part of measures to ensure peace and order during the polls.
This was disclosed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, who confirmed the security arrangements following a high-level stakeholder meeting between the Police Administration and political parties.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Mr. Jibril said the Police Service had demonstrated commendable preparation ahead of the by-election.
“Yes, I can confirm that our rep is at the meeting as at now,” he noted.
According to him, “the approach of the Police even before this meeting is commendable. They have already met the DCEs and the Regional Security Council where I am aware that Police is going to provide 10 Police Officers at each polling station.”
Mr. Jibril assured that the NDC would fully cooperate with the security measures in place.
“We will conduct ourselves peacefully in Akwatia,” he stressed, adding that the party is committed to maintaining calm throughout the electoral process.
