Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has acknowledged the passionate expectations of Ghanaian football fans, admitting that the Black Stars have a squad strong enough to achieve great success.
In an exclusive Premier League TV interview, the AFC Bournemouth attacker reflected on his journey with the national team, highlighting the intense pressure that comes with representing Ghana on the big stage.
Discussing Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, Semenyo pinpointed the disappointing defeat to Uruguay as a moment that still lingers in his mind.
“It felt like pressure, to be honest. There’s a lot of pressure from the fans because we’ve got a good team, and we’ve got to do well. I agree with them; we have a very good team, so there was a lot of pressure behind it. I think we needed to beat Uruguay to get through. Obviously, we lost. It was just frustrating,” he remarked.
The striker also described the emotional reactions of fans in the stands after the loss.
“You look into the stands, all the fans were frustrated, angry, cussing at everyone, and that’s just the country in a nutshell. They just love football. Their week is determined by how well we do,” he added.
Currently in fine form for Bournemouth, Semenyo is widely expected to be included in Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Chad and Madagascar in March.
As Ghana looks to bounce back from recent setbacks and secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, fans will be hoping Semenyo’s skill and determination play a crucial role in the team’s success.
