Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo has expressed his satisfaction after breaking his two-year goal drought for the Black Stars in their emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Semenyo, who last found the net for Ghana in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, wasted no time in making his mark on Friday night, scoring just two minutes into the game at the Accra Sports Stadium. His early goal set the tone for a dominant performance from Otto Addo’s side.
Speaking after the match, the AFC Bournemouth forward admitted he had been eager to get back on the scoresheet during this international window.
“I feel like every player goes through a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to find the net, and if I don’t, I just focus on the next one,” Semenyo said.
“During this international break, I really wanted to get a goal. I wouldn’t say there was pressure, but it was definitely on my mind,” he added.
His early strike sparked a clinical attacking display from the Black Stars, with Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also getting on the scoresheet.
With Ghana now sitting atop Group I with 12 points, the team shifts its attention to their next fixture against Madagascar in Morocco on Monday, March 24. A victory in that game would further cement their lead in the race for World Cup qualification.
