Former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan has been appointed to the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Gyan, known as Ghana’s all-time top scorer, will lead the “Youth and Sports” manifesto sub-committee.
This committee, consisting of Gyan and twenty-three others, will conduct a comprehensive review of the party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos to develop a pragmatic 2024 manifesto. The objective is to create a forward-looking document that addresses the needs of the Ghanaian populace.
Gyan’s role will involve communicating the sports aspect of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto once it is complete. The committee will engage with various stakeholders and sector ministers, who will serve as advisors, to ensure a thorough and inclusive process.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, has appointed outgoing Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, as the Chairman of the Committee, with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as the Vice-Chairman. Evron Hughes will serve as the Secretary, while Prof. Kwaku Appiah Adu and Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah will act as the Manifesto Committee Coordinators.
The committee’s main task is to review the party’s previous manifestos and develop a comprehensive and actionable plan for the upcoming elections.
