Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has officially inaugurated a new Board of Trustees for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), delivering a strong message against politically motivated dealings and calling for responsible stewardship of Ghana’s pension funds.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, Dr. Forson highlighted the critical mandate of SSNIT in securing the retirement future of millions of Ghanaians. He urged the newly formed Board to uphold the highest standards of transparency, prudence, and integrity.
“SSNIT is not an ordinary institution. It is one that we will all need one day—when we retire. The people of Ghana have put their future in your hands, and your decisions must reflect that enormous responsibility,” he stated.
Dr. Forson raised concerns over past investment decisions, warning the new Board not to repeat mistakes involving the sale of state assets to politically connected individuals. “Please don’t sell state assets to politicians. The President will not accept it, and as your sector Minister, I will be the first to oppose it,” he cautioned.
He further assured the Board that government payments to SSNIT are up to date and reaffirmed the Finance Ministry’s commitment to supporting the Trust’s financial health and operational efficiency.
Chairman of the new Board, Nana Ansah Sasraku III, acknowledged the task ahead and pledged a united effort to manage the Trust with diligence and foresight. “We are prepared, united, and committed to ensure that the Trust’s resources are managed with integrity,” he said.
