Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has once again adjourned proceedings indefinitely following the absence of business to deliberate on in the House.
This development came after the failure of the Business Committee to meet and prepare the necessary agenda, which was expected to address critical issues.
The recall session, initiated by the Majority caucus, was expected to proceed today, but with no committee input or an agenda prepared, the sitting was unable to move forward.
In his address, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment over the situation, pointing out that the Majority caucus’s failure to show up for the session had stalled the House’s proceedings.
“Matters that they wanted us to handle are not on the Order Paper,” Bagbin explained.
“In fact, there is no order paper for today because the business committee could not meet due to the absence of the people who requested the recall.”
He further noted that while there was a quorum to sit, there was no business to transact in the absence of an adopted agenda, leading to the adjournment.
This latest adjournment comes amid rising tensions between the Majority and Minority caucuses, with disputes over which side holds the majority in the House.
The indefinite suspension of the sitting raises concerns about the future of Parliament’s legislative agenda, leaving key issues unresolved.
With no clear indication of when Parliament will reconvene, the ongoing deadlock continues to impact the functioning of the legislature.
