Four people have reportedly been killed on the Bolgatanga–Bawku road following what is believed to be a violent escalation of the long-standing Bawku conflict.

According to unverified reports reaching ABC News GH, the deaths occurred on Sunday, July 13, shortly after an inflammatory Facebook post allegedly by a Mamprugu youth group declared war on the Kusasi ethnic group.

The post, widely circulated online, read: “We (Mamprugu) have declared war to Kusasis and their vehicles passing through our territories until the Bolga–Bawku road is deemed safe. The safety of Kusasis on our road will be compromised until this requirement is met. If you are not Kusasi and you are operating in Kusasi-affiliated vehicle, it is prudent you step down immediately for your own safety.”

Victims included a man and a young woman who were shot near the highway, as well as an elderly woman and her grandson at Tinsung. Several others reportedly sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Vineyard Hospital, a private facility said to be owned by the current Bawku Municipal Chief Executive.

Further reports indicate that an alleged armed wing calling itself the Mamprusi Defence Force (MDF) further launched an operations in key locations, including Gingande, where they say six “Kusasi bandits” were “neutralized.”

Additionally, three more individuals were reportedly killed near the Mossi Eid prayer grounds in Tingsugo, and two rifles were allegedly retrieved from the scene.

These claims remain unconfirmed by official security agencies.

In what appears to be a symbolic escalation of hostilities, the same group posted on Facebook celebrating the toppling of a revered statue described as “Bahubali,” believed to be a cultural symbol cherished by the Kusasi community. “BREAKING NEWS 13/07/2025 – Our boys Mamprusi Defence Force (MDF) managed to bring down Bahubali 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂,” the post read.

While tensions continue to rise, ABC News GH is yet to receive confirmation from official security agencies regarding the incidents
