Ghana’s Black Queens have made progress in the latest FIFA Women’s Rankings, climbing one place to 65th globally after their recent international friendly against Morocco.
Despite a narrow defeat to the Atlas Lionesses, the Black Queens continue their steady rise, largely due to their impressive performances since 2023. Their improvement is also reflected on the African stage, where they have moved from sixth to fifth place in the continental rankings.
The United States remains the top-ranked team globally, followed by Spain, Germany, England, and Japan in the top five. Meanwhile, Nigeria continues to lead the African rankings, with South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, and Ghana completing the top five.
Ghana’s return to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time since 2018 is a significant milestone. Drawn in Group C, they will face a tough challenge against defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania in what promises to be an exciting tournament in Morocco later this year.
To fine-tune their preparations, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has scheduled a nine-day training camp in Senegal in April, as the team gears up for a strong campaign at WAFCON.
