Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, have been handed a challenging assignment in Group C of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following the official draw conducted in Cairo on Sunday, April 13.
The draw, held at CAF headquarters in Egypt’s capital, placed Ghana alongside Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic—three sides known for their physicality and tactical discipline—making Group C one of the most competitive pools in the upcoming tournament.
The 2025 U-20 AFCON will take place from April 27 to May 18 in Egypt, bringing together the continent’s finest young talents. Aside from the continental crown, the competition also serves as a qualification route for the next FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Ghana, four-time champions of the tournament (1993, 1999, 2009, 2021), are gearing up for a strong campaign under the leadership of head coach Desmond Ofei. The team resumed camping last week in Accra and is scheduled to play a series of friendly matches to assess form, fitness, and team chemistry ahead of the tournament.
Coach Ofei is expected to finalize his squad following these test games, with a focus on building a balanced team capable of advancing past the group stage and challenging for the title.

With the likes of Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria also in the mix, Ghana will have to be at their best to make a deep run in the tournament. Should they progress from Group C, the Black Satellites could face any of these powerhouses in the knockout rounds.
The Black Satellites will be hoping to draw inspiration from their rich history and solidify their reputation as one of Africa’s most successful youth sides. With a talented squad and strong technical direction, Ghana enters the tournament with both ambition and belief.
