The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Samurai Blue of Japan in their opening match of the 2025 Kirin Cup tournament.
Japan opened the scoring in the 16th minute through AS Monaco forward Takumi Minamino. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Ritsu Doan found the back of the net, sealing victory and putting the game out of Ghana’s reach.
The match featured debuts for Joseph Anang, Prince Owusu, Prince Adu Kwabena, and Derrick Kohn, who all earned their first senior caps for Ghana.
The Black Stars will face South Korea on 18th November in their second game of the tournament.
