The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has directed Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), to resign immediately.
This directive follows serious misconduct claims tied to a GH¢2 million transaction that has significantly tarnished ADB’s reputation and shaken public confidence in its leadership.
The BoG’s directive, conveyed in an October 10 letter to Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, emphasizes the untenable nature of his continued role as a Director at the ADB due to the irreparable damage inflicted on the bank’s image.
Citing the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (ACT 930), the letter mandates his immediate resignation and proper handover of responsibilities, signaling a firm stance against any actions that may undermine the integrity of financial institutions.
The allegations first surfaced in a formal petition lodged with the Office of the President by whistleblower Collins Darkwah Aboagye, who detailed accusations of misconduct related to the controversial transaction.
This unfolding situation has raised critical concerns over potential conflicts of interest and financial mismanagement, prompting urgent calls for accountability within the ADB and reinforcing the need for transparent governance in Ghana’s banking sector.
