The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given its approval for the Accra Sports Stadium to host the upcoming TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Matchday 3 qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.
This decision follows a thorough review of independent inspection reports of the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia.
CAF’s endorsement was communicated through a statement to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo.
The statement read, “Following a comprehensive review of the reports of the CAF independent inspection regarding the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025.
Specifically, it will host the Group F – Matchday 3 encounter between Ghana and Sudan, which is scheduled for October 11, 2024.”
The statement also urged the GFA and stadium management to prioritize enhancements to the pitch and other critical areas of the facility ahead of the game.
This decision comes after CAF’s earlier withdrawal of approval for the Baba Yara Stadium to host Black Stars qualifiers, highlighting the significance of the Accra Sports Stadium being sanctioned for this high-profile encounter.
The fixture is set to take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, with CAF promising to closely monitor the stadium’s readiness for this match and future events.
