Calm has been restored at the Methodist 1 Polling Station in Ablekuma North, and voting has officially resumed following a brief suspension earlier in the day.
The Electoral Commission temporarily halted the process after a violent incident involving the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, who was reportedly attacked by individuals believed to be affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The chaos forced voters and election officials to flee, bringing proceedings to an abrupt standstill.
ABC News GH reporters on the ground confirmed that security was quickly reinforced at the polling centre, with over 50 police officers deployed to ensure stability.
“Chaos erupts at Methodist 1 Polling Station,” the outlet initially reported, but noted later that the situation had been brought under control.
The Methodist 1 centre is among 19 polling stations involved in the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which had otherwise progressed peacefully before the disruption.
Electoral officers and voters have since returned, with the process back on track under tight security.
