Political analyst Dr. Samuel Afriyie has raised serious concerns about the feasibility of the promises made by the two major political parties, the NPP and NDC, as the December 7th general elections approach.
Speaking on ABC News Ghana, Dr. Afriyie questioned the practicality of the pledges, given the current economic constraints and IMF conditions in place until 2026.
He noted that the promises of free services and benefits might be unrealistic under the existing budgetary and resource limitations.
Dr. Afriyie highlighted that both parties have announced ambitious tax reforms and other fiscal promises in their manifestos.
However, he pointed out that these proposals could be challenging to implement effectively without compromising the country’s financial stability.
“There are a lot of free things. And that is one thing our leaders need to look at,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for a realistic evaluation of the promises against the backdrop of ongoing economic constraints.
His remarks come in the wake of the political parties’ ongoing efforts to appeal to voters by showcasing their plans for economic reforms and social benefits.
As the election day draws near, Dr. Afriyie’s cautioned the public to consider promise feasibility when final electing a party into government.
