The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Emmanuel Cherry, has expressed profound disappointment with the government for failing to settle outstanding construction debts.
In an interview with ABC News GH , Cherry highlighted that the government owes over 16 billion Ghana Cedis to contractors, a debt that remains unpaid despite previous promises.
He emphasized that the Ministry had assured them that their concerns would be addressed in the mid-year budget, which was presented today. However, this critical issue was conspicuously absent from the budget, leaving contractors frustrated and financially strained.
Cherry’s discontent is further fueled by the government’s focus on celebrating its achievements rather than addressing the pressing financial obligations to the construction sector.
“Instead of addressing our plight, they were celebrating achievements,” he lamented. The omission of the unpaid debts from the budget has intensified the sector’s frustration, as contractors had hoped for a resolution.
The Ghana Chamber of Construction now calls for immediate action to resolve this financial impasse, stressing the vital role of the construction industry in national development and economic stability.
