Patrick Asare Frimpong, Head of Product at Digitalgov, has indicated that the newly launched CitizenApp represents a transformative upgrade from the previous Ghana.Gov application.
In an interview with ABC NEWS GHANA on October 7, 2024, he emphasized that while Ghana.Gov was primarily focused on payment functionalities, the CitizenApp broadens its scope by allowing users to interconnect with a variety of services provided by state agencies.
The launch, held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, featured Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who highlighted the critical role of digitalization in achieving economic independence for Ghana.
He articulated that as the world embraces the fourth industrial revolution, a robust digital infrastructure is essential for successful economic strategies across various sectors, including public administration, trade, education, financial inclusion, and healthcare.
Dr. Bawumia’s vision positions the CitizenApp as a cornerstone in propelling Ghana toward a prosperous and digitally-savvy future.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam also shared his optimism about the CitizenApp during its launch, highlighting its potential to revolutionize access to government services.
He noted that the app will not only enhance transparency in state financial management but also streamline tax administration by digitizing the entire filing process.
This initiative according to government seeks to alleviate bureaucratic hurdles, boost revenue collection, and ensure better tax compliance, thereby reinforcing a culture of accountability within the government.
